Legislation – The Police and Crime Commissioner Elections (Designation of Local Authorities and Police Area Returning Officers) (Amendment) Order 2024

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Police and Crime Commissioner Elections (Designation of Local Authorities and Police Area Returning Officers) Order 2024 (S.I. 2024/186) (“the 2024 Order”).

The 2024 Order designates, under section 54(1)(b) of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 (c. 13), the persons who are to be the returning officers for police and crime commissioner elections in the police areas named in Schedules 3 and 4 to that Order.

Article 2 of this Order amends the 2024 Order to reflect changes to the parliamentary constituencies following the Parliamentary Constituencies Order 2023 (S.I. 2023/1230), which takes effect fully on the dissolution of parliament on 30th May 2024.

Article 3 provides that this Order does not affect the validity of anything done by or in relation to a police area returning officer designated by the 2024 Order before the coming into force of this Order. It also provides that any charges incurred before this Order came into force for specified services or specified expenses by a police area returning officer designated by the 2024 Order are to be treated as having been incurred by the police area returning officer designated for the same police area following the coming into force of this Order for the purpose of each maximum recoverable amount for that police area.

An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private voluntary or public sectors is foreseen.
