The Representation of the People (Electoral Register Publication Date) (Wales) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020

Coming into force
The Welsh Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the power conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 13(1)(a) and 201(1) and (3) of the Representation of the People Act 19831 (“the 1983 Act”) and now exercisable by them2.
The Welsh Ministers have consulted the Electoral Commission in accordance with section 7(1) and (2)(e) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 20003.
A draft of these Regulations was laid before, and approved by resolution of Senedd Cymru in accordance with section 201(2)4 of the 1983 Act5.

The power of the Secretary of State was transferred, in relation to Wales, to the Welsh Ministers by the Welsh Ministers (Transfer of Functions) Order 2018 (S.I. 2018/644).

The reference to each House of Parliament in section 201(2) of the Representation of the People Act 1983 is to be read as a reference to the National Assembly for Wales by virtue of paragraph 9(2)(b) of Schedule 3 to the Government of Wales Act 2006 (c. 32). The National Assembly for Wales was renamed Senedd Cymru by virtue of section 2 of the Senedd and Elections (Wales) Act 2020 (anaw 1).

Section 201(2) was substituted by section 24 of, and paragraph 69 of Schedule 4 to, the Representation of the People Act 1985 (c. 50), and was amended by paragraph 6(1) and (7)(b) of Schedule 21 to the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
