Abdul Sujac jailed for fatal road traffic collision in Deptford
A man who killed a 19-year-old female in a road traffic collision in Deptford has been jailed for death by dangerous driving.
Abdul Sujac, 22 (15.04.96), of Sunrise Close, Stratford, was jailed for six years and three months at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 19 October having pleaded guilty to death by dangerous at an earlier hearing.
He will also be disqualified from driving for five years.
Police were called at 22:15hrs on Thursday, 30 November 2017 to Creek Road at the junction with Deptford Church Street, SE8 to reports of a vehicle in a collision with a pedestrian.
Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and provided first aid to the victim, 19-year-old Laura Ann Keyes (04.11.98), who was from Tideswell in Derbyshire.
Despite their efforts, Laura was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem held later on at Greenwich Public Mortuary on 6 December 2017 would give cause of death as multiple injuries.
Sujac, who was driving the black BMW, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.
He was taken to a south London police station and then bailed before subsequently being charged by postal requisition in June 2018.
The Court would hear that Sujac was a habitual dangerous driver who would brazenly record clips of his exploits with over 4000 clips being recovered from his phone.
In one video, postedtwo days after being convicted for another offence, he posted a caption stating ‘nine points ain’t gonna stop me driving’ in reference to being penalised for careless driving near the Westfield Shopping where he struck a pedestrian.
Following his sentencing, investigating officer Detective Sergeant Richard Budd, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The evening that Laura died she had been enjoying a night out with her friends and enjoying her life before it was tragically cut short in the most cruel and sudden of circumstances.
“Sujac’s senseless and irresponsible actions have robbed Laura’s family of a person who by all accounts was a well-loved and well-liked young woman who had the rest of her life to look forward to.
“Sujac will now have a substantial custodial sentence to reflect on his actions. I hope this will act as a reminder to other motorists to drive safely and responsibly so as to spare anyone else the devastation that Laura’s family have been caused.”
